Travellers in Nigeria’s airspace will have witnessed first hand the quality and service offered by the country’s various airlines. While some have weathered the storm of the harsh and extremely tough airline business in Nigeria several others notably Sosoliso and co have failed to reinvent and as a result have been sunk into oblivion.
NairaBrains does this feature article to review the best airlines in the country in the past ten years. We take into cognizance such factors such as state of aircrafts used, quality of service, adherence to safety procedures.
As always here are cardinals we use in placing the airlines that have served and are still serving the country’s numerous air travellers for the past ten years.
- Safety: This of course is the first and foremost consideration of most air travellers. A quick survey showed that nine out of every ten Nigerian traveller will prefer assurance of safety to assurance of speedy and timely take-off and departure. Apart from adherence to safety rules the quality and condition of aircraft is also a very vital factor in the safety review.
- Service Quality: This comprises a host of other sub-factors such as timeliness in sticking to schedule, behaviour and comportment of crew and staff etc.
- Corporate Image: We also looked at which airlines paint better than others the image of corporate professionalism and expertise as this has been found to build the confidence in customers when an airline appears professionally run. Truth is, some airlines are run no better than some long distance bus companies and that definitely does not give confidence to travellers. This covers effective management, staff level of training and professionalism etc.
For the purposes of this review we have only included passenger airlines. Hence cargo airlines are excluded.
