Jos- Member representing Riyom Constituency, Mr. Daniel Dem and some journalists, Monday, escaped death by the whiskers as suspected Fulani attackers fired several gunshots into Kak village during an inspection of villages destroyed earlier in recent attacks.

The lawmaker was busy conducting the journalists round the about 10 villages which had come under attack from suspected Fulani herdsmen when volleys of gunshots were again fired into the village.

They all scampered into safety to escape being hit by bullets from the attackers said to have hidden behind the rocks in the area. They abandoned vehicles and ran to a safe distance until the shooting stopped.

Several houses and a church were torched while over 10 people were killed on Monday when Bangai and Kak villages came under attack almost simultaneously rendering hundreds of people from the two villages homeless.

Dem was in tears after the escape to a safe area about two kilometres from the village, saying he had witnessed what his constituents were going through first hand.

He said: "I thought it was a joke. I never knew this is what my people have been passing through; I had a close shave with death. You newsmen have seen it yourselves that the victims are not just telling lies about their predicament.

"I am happy no journalists was hurt, but my people are in danger. There is no security to help them out. Government knows about the problem; security agents know of the attacks but no one is responding to my distress call.”
