86 survive as Abuja bound Dana plane lands in Lagos

A Dana Air flight carrying 86 passengers from Uyo on Thursday made an emergency landing at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, following “loss of hydraulic pressure”.

Dr Harold Demuren, Director-General, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria.

He said that there was no casualty and no damage was done to the aircraft.

Demuren commended the crew for their discretion in declaring an emergency and opting to land at the international runway as part of the mandatory safety procedures. He explained that the timely handling of the incident was sufficient proof of the safety management system put in place by the NCAA and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria.

A spokesperson for Dana Air, Mr Tony Usidamen, said the aircraft had to initiate an emergency landing when the pilot discovered that it had “failure of hydraulic pressure”.

“ The aircraft made an emergency landing in Lagos due to loss of hydraulic pressure. The pilot subsequently informed the control tower which cleared it to land at the international airport runway. Relevant aviation agencies, including the FAAN, mobilised emergency fire trucks and ambulance as well as evacuation bus to convey the passengers after the aircraft landed,’’ Usidamen said.

After this incident why didnt the authorities take steps to rectify this problem ,now this same plane has crashed killing all on board...RIP
