There is a large proliferation of salons in Nigeria offering services that can be considered dangerous to the health and safety of clients. Salons are providing services without the underlying knowledge of the interaction between hair products and the hair itself; between beauty products and the skin; and between nail products and the nails as well as the after effect of wrongful usage of these chemicals.


The author of the article said “The dependency of African Women on Hair relaxers is truly worrisome especially as most women are not well informed about the chemicals present in these relaxers. Women relax their hair at least once every month and this ritual continues mostly for the rest of their lives. Being exposed to potentially harmful chemicals in small doses for a long period of time is what’s absolutely scary.”


The goal of DELAC is to provide proper education, to salon operators and those seeking career opportunity in hairdressing, as wrongful usage of anything in life can produce adverse result, because even water can kill. However, I disagree with the author that there is a link between Relaxer and Fibroid. This is because I know a lot more about Fibroid than the average curious none medical woman, as my MSc Dissertation was based a Fibroid using Decision Support Systems to help manage it.

 
Remember a knife in the hand of a child can kill, while in the hand of a Chef it will produce artistic work such as a carrot that looks like a bird. No woman should have Relaxers more than 6 times a year. The average is 4 times. So if anyone is relaxing her hair 12 times a year then there is problems.
