Another tragedy struck in Port Harcourt over the weekend, as a man who was identified as Obinna Eze reportedly beat his girlfriend, Idara to death on Saturday over a disagreement on the randy ways of Eze.
The development came barely 48 hours after the bus explosion that claimed one life at Rumuokoro roundabout.
Eze was said to have had a fierce disagreement with his girlfriend as the girl reportedly accused him of sleeping around with different girls.
The girl’s accusation was said to have provoked Eze who allegedly beat the girl to death.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Indabawa, who confirmed the ugly incident to LEADERSHIP, said the suspect had since been arrested by the police. He said the matter would be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department, CID for further action.
Indabawa said he regretted that the incident came only a few weeks after a similar incident occurred in Diobu area of Port Harcourt where a man allegedly murdered a girl and buried her corpse in his one-room apartment. It took the timely intervention of the police to exhume the corpse.
The state police boss further appealed for timely information from residents in the state to assist the police effectively combat crime.
The police boss said the corpse of the girl that was allegedly murdered by Obinna had been deposited at the morgue in the Braithwaite Memorial Hospital, BMH in Port Harcourt.
“One Obinna Eze killed his girlfriend one Idara in the early hours of Saturday by beating her to death at his residence. The suspect has been arrested and detained in Borokiri. Deceased conveyed to BMH mortuary the matter has been referred to the Criminal Investigations Department CID,” he stated.
