Kwara State Chapter of Odua People’s Congress (OPC) has asked President Jonathan to accept their help in the fight against Boko Haram.
The Coordinator of OPC in Kwara, Moruf Abdulsalam, while speaking in Ilorin on Sunday, said that the group had discovered new scientific way of handling bomb blasts.
"When the time comes, the congress will not hesitate to put it into use to protect the lives and property of innocent citizens being wasted by the Boko Haram."
Abdulsalam stressed that the congress was ready to ensure that no life was wasted in the state by the Boko Haram terrorists.
According to him, the main objective of the OPC, with over 19,000 members, was to protect lives and property of citizens.
Abdulsalam said the congress had ordered its branches in the 16 local government areas to extend their tentacles to the grassroots to monitor suspicious movements that could pose security risk.
"The congress has also mandated the local government branches to recruit more youths as a way of preparing for emergencies," he said, "We don’t pray that they should attack any of us in Yoruba land, but we are not leaving any stone unturned. In spite of appeals from well meaning Nigerians and foreigners, this sect has not listened." Can they bite?
Violence erupts in Damaturu and Kano again
Renewed violence erupted Tuesday evening in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital as suspected members of Boko Haram clashed with the combined team of army and the police.
Fierce gun battle between security agents and suspected militants was also reported by residents of Goron Dutse and Dala in Kano state.
Witnesses claim gunmen launched attacks against the police station in Goron Dutse with explosives and guns.
According to a Joint Task Force (JTF) source, who does not want to be named, the renewed hostility in Damaturu started around 6pm, Tuesday evening.
The JTF official told Channels Television that explosions and gun shots were targeted at the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu and the personal residence of the state governor.
The source also confirmed that three attackers were killed in the process as three arms were recovered. According to the source, a structure at the polytechnic was razed but the attack was repealed by operatives of the Joint Task Force that rushed to the scene.
The police are yet to confirm the attack.
A 24 hour curfew was placed on the city after the violence that erupted last Sunday but was later relaxed after a reasonable sense of normalcy returned to the north eastern city.
