The Professor of the Department of Mathematics, Usman Danfodio University of Sokoto made the submission while speaking with Daily Trust at a three-day seminar organised by National Mathematics Centre,Abuja.
While presenting a paper at the first day of the seminar on Wednesday, titled "Introduction to mathematical modelling" said "the rudiment of Mathematics is a solution to all problems", he maintained that "modelling"- an aspect of mathematics - remains the most effective way of tackling all problems in the society, noting that security problems in the country were not excluded.
"...to solve a given physical, biological or social problem, we first develop a mathematical model for it, then solve the model and finally interpret the solution in terms of the original problem."
"In modelling, we are not looking for immediate thing, we look at the future", he added.
Modellers to the rescue
Prof. Ibrahim called for the need for the federal government to engage modellers in formulating policies in all its organisation.
"In the developed country, most organisation has a modeller to help solve their problems."
He argued that a Mathematician was a fast thinker who devise a solution even before the problem comes.
Cause of insurgence
Prof. Ibrahim blamed the inequality in the distribution of wealth in the country as the major cause of insecurity in the country.
"Most of the groups coming up now were harmless in the last five years but the politicians armed them for their selfish interests. Now, they are powerful."
He said those sponsoring the militant groups were using them to unstable the government of the day after losing out at the polls.
Few modellers
The University Don however, expressed dismay that there were few modellers in Nigeria at the moment.
He called on scientists in the country to delve into the area (modelling) in order to help the society better.
The Acting Director General of the Centre, Professor Adewale Sholarin said the programme was staged to sensitize and encourage scientists to take to modelling.
Other speakers at the occasion include United States-based Professor, Prof Frank Sottile who spoke on Computer Algebra.
