A police source told our reporter that the suspect of No 5 Ojekale Street Bariga, Lagos, forged a letter- headed paper of the Chief of Staff to the President to secure employment and was arrested.
“Upon receipt of a referred petition, the suspect as well as exhibit were handed over to a bureau for discreet investigation. When the suspect was taken to the place he squatted and a letter of his dismissal from Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) recovered from a travelling bag belonging to him,” the policeman said.
The policeman said the suspect used the same tactics to gain employment at AMCON before he was dismissed.
He said the suspect led the police to where the documents were printed, which led to the arrest of the printer, one Hammed Oyebanjo.
“The suspect used forged letter headed papers of NCC, AMCON and Federal Ministry of Transport and was given employment at AMCON based on the forged documents,” the policeman added.
The suspect, Anthony, in a chat with our reporter admitted forging and signing the letter headed papers of the Chief of Staff, which he said he sent to the executive chairman of Nigerian Communication Commission Abuja, Minister of Information, Minister of Transport and the Managing Director of AMCON to seek for employment.
He said AMCON gave him a job on February 15, adding that he was dismissed on March 1 after the forgery was discovered.
“I forge such documents to seek employment because life has not been easy for me financially because government is doing nothing to help the youths and I must help myself,” he said.
The second suspect, Hammed Oyebanjo, described himself as a printer. He said police detectives arrested him on June 25 at Shomolu in Lagos State. The printer admitted printing four copies of the letter headed papers for the first suspect but said he was misled.
“I was misled by Anthony who told me to print samples of the letter headed papers for him to present to the office for a printing contract that he was pursuing there,” the printer said.
FCT Police Spokesman, Deputy Superintendent Mustapha Rashid confirmed the story but declined to comment further.
