Suspected Fulani herdsmen have attacked a village, populated by Christians in the central Nigeria’s Plateau State early Saturday, killing yet-to-be counted number of people, officials said.

The attack on Kankuru village in Riyom local government area and near the flashpoint state capital of Jos happened around 7:00 a.m,today they said.

“Presently the casualty figures are not yet known. But there are casualties,” Captain Salisu Mustapha, a spokesman for the military special task force deployed in the region, told AFP.

He said the gunmen, suspected to be Muslim Fulani herdsmen, stormed the mainly Christian village with guns and matchetes, adding that the military had taken over the area to contain the violence.

Plateau state police spokesman Emmanuel Abuh said his men had also moved in.

Riyom is near Jos where thousands have died in communal and sectarian clashes in recent years.

Just on Thursday, the anti-bomb squad of the Nigerian police evacuated a high calibre bomb planted in an area of the capital, called Congo Russia.

There have also been a number of attacks attributed to Islamist group Boko Haram in recent months.

Simple solution is let the Christians attack the Fulani herdsmen, herdswomen, and herdschildren if necessary.
