The family of the girl was said to have agreed to the family of the 15 year old husband even before they were born. The two families had a ritual ceremony over which the girl was handed over to a 15 year old who is doing his form three at Gwindingwi High School.
They were to be charged with pledging a female child under the Criminal Codification Act section 94 chapter 9-23 which stipulates that no one is allowed to hand over a female child under the age of 18 to appease avenging spirits or to settle debts.
When contacted for comment the children's rights organisation said it was an abuse of the children's rights to force them into marriage.

"This is one of worst form of abuse of children's rights. We are going to take action and protect the girl. We want to see her going back school again; even the boy has the right to continue with his education without any interruption. He is likely to be disturbed as his schoolmates will laugh at him."
