“MKO Abiola was the nation’s elected president.  Let that fact be enshrined in the nation’s records, then we would have embarked on one of the tributaries to the amplitude of true national reconciliation”.

With those words, Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, spoke on the anniversary of the death of Chief MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election. Abiola died 14 years ago, precisely on July 7, 1998.

According to Soyinka, redressing June 12 goes beyond “dubious renaming ceremonies which generate needless and distracting controversies”.

The Nobel Laureate message was entitled, ‘National Day of Treachery’

In as much I hold Prof. Wole Soyinka to the utmost esteem; I do not accept the idea of why Abiola must be declared an elected president. Is that the problem facing the Nigeria masses? It is high time our respected Leaders/elders stop chasing shadows and face reality. There are more confronting issues that need to be addressed in Nigeria than Abiola’s mandate. He is dead and he should be allowed to rest in Peace, a lot of innocent Nigerians lost there lives because of June 12, isn’t that enough scarifies? Nobody has ever remembered those patriots who sacrificed their blood for Abiola’s mandate to be honored as well; all we hear about is Abiola, Abiola, Abiola, Abiola, Abiola,.

The country is being bombed day and night by Boko Haram, Corruption every where you go in Nigeria, extra judicial killing by our security personals, Prof. Wole Soyinka have not come out strongly to condemn it what he is after is to declare  Abiola an elected president. Is that what we actually need now as a people in this country? It is high time our leaders start thinking about restructuring our country to suit the living not the dead. What a shame of a clueless leaders.
