There was an explosion yesterday at the venue for the passing-out parade of members of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, but no casualty was recorded. The incident occurred at the Civic Centre, close to the state police command headquarters, as the PCRC members were ending their two weeks training.
Some of the trainees said the explosion came from a nylon bag outside the handball field venue of the training, thereby causing a stampede.
The command’s spokesman, Mr. Benjamin Ugwuegbulam, a Deputy Superintendent, said it was mere fireworks coming from a rocket-like object. Ugwuegbulam stated that there was no semblance of bomb in the explosion, expressing delight at the security consciousness of members of the public.
Collaborating the police spokesman’s claim, PCRC Chairman, Austen Yong, wondered while anyone could plant a bomb at the venue, if it was a bomb as alleged. He said that if it was an explosion, the entire vicinity, particularly the police headquarters, would be affected and there would be casualties.
He said that someone might have forgotten the object there. “I was there when the explosion occurred, but it was not a bomb. If it was a bomb, who could be the target of it? The PCRC members were passing-out today. If it was a bomb, there would be casualties and it would affect the police headquarters here,” he added.
The Questions are:
- is it truly that the explosion is just fireworks or a test-run of Bomb blast to see how the security agencies will respond?
- is Boko Haram now in Port Harcourt?
- is Port Harcourt the next target for Boko Haram?
- is Nigerian Police Force trying to cover something to show Port Harcourt is safe? if it's real Bomb they should tell the citizens
