The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abuja Council, has hailed Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole over his resounding victory in last Saturday’s governorship election.

The Council in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Chuks Ehirim, said Oshiomhole’s re-election was a re-affirmation of the peoples’ confidence in his first term and an indication that there was hope for the nation’s democratic march.

Ehirim urged the Comrade Governor to see his victory as a call by the people of Edo state for him to deliver even more in terms of governance and dividends of democracy, while urging him to be magnanimous in victory.

He also used the opportunity to commend the people of the state for their maturity and peaceful conduct during the duration of the vote and expressed the hope that other states would emulate the exemplary conduct demonstrated in Edo State.

Similarly, Ehirim commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for delivering a near-faultless election, saying the commission had shown that it could work within democratic tenets and uphold the sanctity of the ballot box when it chooses.

The council chairman also commended the conduct of security personnel during the polls and appealed to them not to abuse the goodwill it had enjoyed from well-meaning Nigerians by not allowing themselves to be used by any party or individual in future elections.
