Other penalties for traffic offenders are:
 
1. Riding a motor-cycle against traffic : 1st time offender – N20,000.00 subsequent offender N30,000.00 .
2. Smoking while driving - N20,000.00 fine
3. Failure to give way to traffic on the left at a roundabout - N20,000.00 fine
4. Disobeying traffic control - N20,000.00

5. Riding motor-cycle without crash helmet for rider and passenger - N20, 000: 00 or 3yrs imprisonment
6. Driving without valid driver’s license - Vehicle to be impounded.
7. Driving with fake number plate - N20,000.00 and 6 month imprisonment or both.


What an inconsistent approach to law-making? Which is far worse- fake number plate which is a fraud or without valid driver's licence, which is a traffic offence? How can one spend 3 solid years in jail for a traffic offence without option of fine? Has the state built enough prisons to accommodate the influx?

lagos state need to face out this so call LASMA, and replace them with trafic police. this ppl are nothing but criminals in uniform,,,,    CHECK THIS OUT, ON FRIDAY LAST WEEK, IN CELE BUS STOP, THE SO CALL LASMA STOPED ONE OF MY RELATION, ACUSING HIM OF DRIVING ONE WAY, BEFORE THE MAN COULD SAY ANYTHING, THE LASMA GUY BUST 3 OF HIS TIRES, AND LATER THEY ENDED UP IN POLICE STATION, WHERE MY GUY BAILED HIM SELF WITH THE 3 PEOPLE WITH HIM WITH OVER 100,000NAIRA, AT THAT POINT PEOPLE WERE LAYING ALL SOUGHT OF CAUSES TO THE LASMA GUY, SOME TELLING HIM THAT YOU WILL DIE ON THE ROAD, AND SOME TELLING HIM THAT YOU WILL NOT SEE GOOD THING IN LIFE,

   COULD YOU BELIEVE THAT 4 DAYS LATER WHICH IS TUESDAY, THE SAME LASMA GUY AT THE SAME SPORT STOPED ANOTHER CAR AGAIN, AND WHILE TRYING TO DEFLECT HIS TIRES, AN ONCOMING CAR HIT HIM FROM BEHIND AND HE DIED AT THE SPORT.

They should make them lose their licence instead of  3 years Jail .  Make them lose their licence for 6 months to one year plus a reasonable fine .  3 yrs jail term too long
