Condemning the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) for disqualifying candidates for the election with just three days to go, PDP warned that its supporters would resist, “by all means” a repeat of the electoral fraud allegedly perpetrated by the rival party during the Lagos State council polls. It revealed that ACN’s plan was to subvert the will of voters by refusing to announce results of the elections at the polling units, as clearly stipulated by law.
“Nigerians must be put on notice that the intention of the ACN government in Ogun State is to manipulate the council polls the way it was done in Lagos State in October 2011,” read a statement signed by PDP’s zonal publicity secretary, Hon Kayode Babade.
“Nigerians should also recall that up till today, results of the Lagos State council polls held on 22nd October 2011 are yet to be made public, as only names of purported winners of the election were released by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).”
Babade argued that the same crude tactic employed in Lagos would be used by the ACN in Ogun.
“Already, some of our candidates are now being disqualified from participating in the election while there is also plan to disqualify many others between today and tomorrow. Also, as done in Lagos, OGSIEC intends to subvert the law by not announcing results at the polling booths,” he added.
PDP, therefore, issued a warning to “the double-faced democrats in the ACN” that it would resist any attempt to manipulate the election.
