Following the newly approved monthly salaries for members of the National Working Committee, NWC, of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, will now earn more than President Goodluck Jonathan.

With this development, the monthly take home pay for Tukur is N2m and the National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, N1.5m.

President Jonathan’s earns N1.17m monthly, the vice-president receives N1,010,524.17 while the Senate President goes home with N724,570.73.

A minister also earns N650,136.67; governor N648,580.63; Deputy Senate President N673,506.97 and Speaker of the House of Representatives earns N412,851.67This development is a deviation from the tradition in the party since its formation in 1998 as all previous NWC members were paid only sitting allowances. Other 10 members of the NWC will receive N1m monthly.

Apart from the new monthly salaries, members of the NWC will continue to collect the N50,000 weekly sitting allowance which was all that accrued to their predecessors.

Aside the new salaries, members of the NWC are equally entitled to housing, furniture and vehicle allowances.

It was gathered that the leadership of the party resolved to pay the salaries to financially empower them and discourage the tendency of the national officers running cap in hand to PDP governors, a practice that compromised the par-ty leaders in the past.

However, it could not be ascertained if the new salary payment would be extended to the zonal, state and ward executive committees who were all equal-ly elected to administer the party at lower levels.
