Chelsea of England’s midfield ace Mikel Obi risks being banned from the Super Eagles if he snubs invitation to play against Liberia on the artificial turf in Monrovia come September, the chairman of the NFF technical committee, Barrister Chris Green has said.
“Mikel will be invited for the match against Liberia and I am sure he will gladly honour the invitation to play for the Eagles for the first time after Nigeria exited from the 2012 African Cup of Nations against Guinea in Abuja last year. Keshi has assured that Mikel will be invited for the match against Liberia and that he has no grudge against the Chelsea star and I believe him’’,said Green.
Reminded that Mikel refused to play on the artificial turf of the Ogbemudia stadium in Benin the last time he was invited to play against Botswana and that he may do same against Liberia since the game will hold on an artificial turf in Monrovia, Green stated that Mikel is ready to play and won’t mind the kind of turf he plays on.
He said Mikel can play on an artificial turf like he did for Chelsea in the UEFA champions league.
“Well, he can only refuse to play in Monrovia at his own risk. If he is no longer ready to play for Nigeria in future, then he can opt out of the match on the basis that it is on astro turf”
