There was tension in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, yesterday, following  heavy movement of security patrol along the major streets as a result of  planned protest against the sacking of five out of the eight local government chairmen in the state over alleged gross misconduct and failure to render proper account of stewardship to the State House of Assembly.

The sack of the council chairmen, Chief Tiwei Orunimighe(Southern Ijaw), Ngo  Sylva (Brass), Eddy Julius (Ekeremor), Pere Pereotu (Sagbama) and Sammy Boy(Ogbia.) came when they have  six months to the end of their tenure. The sacking of the chairmen formed part of the recommendations of the report by the State House of Assembly on the  probe into the accounts of the councils.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the members of the State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Kombowei Benson, arrived at the decision on the sacking of the affected council chairmen on Tuesday after six hours deliberations. And the recommendations were forwarded to the office of the  Deputy Governor. The vice chairmen of the affected councils were immediately sworn-in by the state Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri at a brief ceremony in the Government House as substantive chairmen.

Those sworn-in  Wednesday night as chairmen include Yousuo Oberiakuna (Brass),Felix Ayah (Southern Ijaw),Ibegu Richard (Ogbia),John Ebikake (Ekeremor) and Tony Ogola (Sagbama).
