According to him, better efforts were made when President Umaru Yar’Adua was alive to implement the Niger Delta master plan than “now that we have a South-Southerner as president,” just as he attributed the lapses to what he described as the inefficiency of ministers from the zone in contributing their quota and informing the president on the “true position of things.”
In his words, “The Niger Delta people are still suffering and that is capable of resurrecting arms. We are aware that Mr President cannot do it all, but he has a Minister of Niger Delta who does not tell him the truth, particularly as regards the East West road. Our people are not happy with the performance of Mr President as it has to do with the East West Road.
“That road was awarded during the President Obasanjo’s regime and up till now nothing has been done on that road. Then the issue of the Petroleum Industry Bill, the issue of human capital development in the Niger Delta and the life of the common man in the creeks is terrible, despite the fact that we have a President from this area. People are not really happy and I also see that those that are working with Mr President are not doing well.
“I am talking about the Minister for Petroleum, Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, these people are not helping matters because they are the ones that are supposed to rally round Mr President and ensure that there is development in this area. So, I am calling on Mr President to access the performance of those working with him in the Niger Delta, if they are not helping him let them go so that he will be able to employ capable hands that are ready to work with him for the development of the region.”
