The Akwa Ibom State Government on Tuesday relieved the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Helen Ukpabio, of her duty.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Arit Okpo, was also retired.
Though, no reason was given for their dismissal, it was gathered that the state governor, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, was angry at the manner the commissioner and the permanent secretary handled the organisation of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Uyo on Tuesday.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, said, “His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio, has relieved the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr. Helen Ukpabio, of her appointment as Commissioner with immediate effect.
“Similarly, the Governor has also approved the retirement of the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Arit Okpo.
“The Governor thanks all affected officers for their services to the State and wishes them success in their future endeavours.”
