As a pope, you serve either till you die or you resign, that is it according to the canon law..fine, it has being a long time a pope resigned, they usually stay till they die but let's not forget that all though he is a pope he is also human...As you stated, he is 86 therefore he isn't a child, he must have thought dis through. He feels he should resign so a stronger person can take over isn't that a sensible thing?
