The incident happened on Sunday at Oke Igbein area of Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun State.
Also electrocuted was the child of a policeman, Sergeant Moses, who was killed last year during an armed robbery attack at Ijemo area of Abeokuta along with three other cops.
Our correspondent gathered that the boy, whose name could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, was attempting to pick some iron rods from the rubble of a demolished building opposite the Government House at Oke- Igbein when he was electrocuted.
The policeman died while trying to rescue the boy he had been taking care of since the death of the boy’s father who is the policeman’s brother.
It was gathered that officials of PHCN had earlier disconnected the cable only to reconnect it following a request by one of its top officials who was organising a ceremony at Ake area Sunday.
The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa and the Chief Security Officer, CSO, to the governor and some officials of PHCN were at the scene of the incident Monday.
When our correspondent contacted the Senior Manager, Public Affairs of Ijeun District of PHCN, Mr Richard Oyewole, Monday morning to speak about the incident, he said investigation had commenced and the outcome would be made public when it is out.
Oyewole told our correspondent that his office received a report that a scavenger was electrocuted yesterday while trying to pick some rods from the rubble of the demolished building opposite Government House and a man identified as a police officer who attempted to rescue him was also electrocuted.
The PHCN official disclosed that when its officials visited the scene of the incident yesterday, no dead body was found there.
He explained that the company handling construction of the road did not seek any approval for cutting electricity supply to the area as at the time it commenced work on the road, an action the PHCN boss condemned.
