Former Deputy Governor of Benue State Prince Ogiri Ajene died yesterday from illness in a London hospital.
The late Ajene served as a deputy governor for eight years under the regime of former Governor George Akume between 1999 and 2007.
He proceeded to serve as a councillor between 2007 and 2011 in his Oju local council at the expiration of his tenure in Government House, Makurdi.
Ajene was son of the longest serving Ochi’ Idoma II, HRH, the late Abraham Ajene Okpabi who ruled Idoma kingdom for 45 years.
The late former deputy governor also served in the third republic as member of the House of Representatives Between 1992 and 1993.

An early caller, a commissioner nominee in the state, Egbiri Edah expressed shock over the sad development, describing the death as, “a great loss to the nation and to Igede people of Benue state in particular”.
Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam expressed shock on hearing the news saying a large political vacuum has been created.
