The umbrella body of the north, Arewa Consultative Forum, on Thursday kicked against the single tenure for president and  governors being proposed by the Senate.

The Forum said that such provision will be counter-productive because it could not further the cause of good governance in the country.

The ACF in an e-mail message  to journalists in Kaduna on Thursday added that apart from good governance, the proposed single tenure lacked the basic elements of motivation and incentives needed in any management of human affairs.

The Forum noted that no management system devoid of incentives, motivation and reward  could be managed for performance.

According to the ACF, in the single tenure, the only available incentive and motivation is the pillage of public funds that goes with unbriddled access to public funds by the leaders in  Nigeria “which is counter- productive.”

Rather than a single tenure, the northern group said Nigeria should copy the Bangladesh model which allows for a Caretaker Government for the purpose of the conduct of elections only.

The statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Mr. Anthony Sani, read: “The attention of Arewa Consultative Forum has been drawn to the reported recommendations for provision in the constitution for single tenure of six years for president and governors by the Senate.”
