An Akure Chief Magistrate Court yesterday remanded a 53-year-old woman, Rachael Abodunrinde, in prison for the murder of a 10-month-old baby, Toluwa Fadahunsi, Vanguard is reporting.

The suspect, according to the prosecuting witness, cracked the toddler’s skull with a stone.

Abodunrinde, who is a family member to the father of the deceased, was caught in the act shortly after she committed the offence in the deceased mothers bedroom.

Police Prosecutor, Mr Zakari Ibrahim, told the court that the incident occurred on April 30, 2013 at about 12:50 p.m at Iju, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to the charge sheet, the offence is punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

Ibrahim therefore urged the court to remand the suspect in prison to enable him duplicate the case file with the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Johnson Adelegan adjourned the case to June 21, 2013 pending the DPP’s advice.

Meantime, a 40-year-old woman, Mrs Adenike Ayewamide, wife of a popular politician in Idanre has been abducted.

Mrs Ayewamide who lives at Surulere Street in Odode Idanre was abducted by three gunmen at her residence, yesterday.
