Father of the four-year-old murdered boy, Marvelous Ugochukwu, Rev. Pastor Charles Nwachukwu Ejim, has alleged attempts by some influential and wealthy persons in the area to sweep under the carpet the killing of his child.
Rev. Ejim called on the Governor Sullivan Chime-led Enugu State government and the state commissioner of police to look into the matter in order to ensure that his family obtain justice.
Marvellous Ugochukwu Ejim was kidnapped from his father’s compound on April, 25 at a village, Umuatugbuoma, Akaegbe-Ugwu in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The key suspect, an intimate friend of the Ejims, allegedly abducted the deceased in collaboration with four others, and slashed his throat.
The blood of the slain Marvellous was said to have been drained into a bucket and taken to a yet-to-be identified person(s) for ritual. The boy’s corpse was later dumped inside a bush at the back of the father’s compound.
Speaking with our correspondent in Enugu, Rev. Ejim alleged that even after the key suspect had taken police detectives to the scene of the incident, and identified four other young men in the area said to be involved in the killing of the boy, the police seem to be foot-dragging in prosecuting the suspects.
But the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said the matter is still on, but denied knowledge of the police attempting to suppress the case.
“If they have any issues against those investigating the matter, they should come up with such so that the police authority will look into it,” he said.
