The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission has identified shrines and evil forests used as polling areas in past elections to perpetrate fraud.
The Acting Chairman of the commission, Chief Sylvester Okonkwo, told newsmen in Awka on Thursday that the development was worrisome ahead of the Oct. 5 local government elections in the state.

Okonkwo said polling booths were discovered in such places at Nteje in the Oyi Local Government Area, Marine area of Onitsha North, and in Ogbaru Local Government Area.
He, however, assured the people that the polling booths would be relocated before the council polls, adding: “There is no way women and Christians will vote in shrines or evil forests.’’
He urged traditional rulers to assist the commission to establish proper sites where elections would take place in their domain.
He lifted the ban on political campaigns and urged the aspirants and political parties to kick-off their campaigns openly and in accordance with the law.
Okonkwo called on individuals who lost their voter’s cards during last year’s flood not to relent as they would be allowed to vote during the polls provided their names appeared on INEC register.
In his remarks, the Coordinator of the Movement for the Conduct of Local Government Elections, Mr Osita Obi, commended the commission for listening to the yearnings of the people by fixing a date for the polls.
He called on the aspirants to sensitise their communities and supporters to win the trust of the grassroots.
