OLE! Ex-Visafone staff docked over alleged N586,000 theft

A 35-year-old former Visafone staff, Endy Dalvin Ogbeide, was yesterday docked before a Lagos Magistrate’s court, sitting at Igbosere, for allegedly stealing N586,000. The defendant, who is facing a three-count charge of stealing and issuing dud cheque, preferred against him, was arraigned before Magistrate O. A. Fowowe.

The police prosecutor, Babaji Ishaku, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence between June 2012 and June 14, 2013. He said the defendant on June 2012, at House 54C Road 57, Victoria Garden City, in Ajah Lekki area of Lagos, obtained 70 cartons of Huggies diapers worth N560,000 and four shirts belonging to one Miss Queensley Kehinde Eweka, with pretence to pay. He assured  her that he was going to pay on or before July 31, 2012, knowing that it was false.


The prosecutor said the defendant in August 2012, issued a Guaranty Trust Bank Plc dud cheque number 0197 for N80,000 dated August 29, 2012 to the complainant and when she presented the cheque for payment, it was dishounred on the ground that there was insufficient fund in the account.
The prosecutor also claimed that Ogbeide issued a Fidelity Bank dud cheque number 10838059 for  N100,000, to her on April 25, 2013. He added that the defendant issued another  N100,000 Fidelity Bank cheque number 10838060 dated May 3, 2013.

On May 31, 2013, he also issued a Fidelity Bank cheque number 10838062 for N100,000. He also issued a N100,000 Fidelity Bank cheque dated June 14, 2013 to Eweka and when she presented it for payment it was also dishourned due to insufficient funds in the account.

The prosecutor said that the offence committed was contrary to sections 312, 319 (B) of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
However, when the charge was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty and Magistrate Fowowe granted him bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to September 12, 2013.
