Liverpool have reportedly made an approach to bring Chelsea winger Victor Moses on a season-long loan deal to Anfield.

The Nigeria international has failed to earn a regular place at Stamford Bridge, following his arrival from Wigan Athletic last summer and after the Blues completed the signing of Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Willian, Moses' place in the club's line-up looks to be in further jeopardy.

According to The Times, the Merseyside outfit are now planning to offer the player an escape route, with the promise of first-team football. The Daily Mail reports Liverpool are reluctant to pay Chelsea the £2m fee required to take Moses on loan and also match the 22-year-old's £55,000-a-week wages but all three parties are expected to reach a compromise to strike a deal.

Chelsea already have an abundance of attacking midfielders and wingers, with Eden Hazard, Oscar, Juan Mata, Kevin de Bruyne, Andre Schurrle and Moses all competing for the three attacking roles behind the lone striker. The arrival of Willian is expected to force at least one player out of the club or on a season-long loan, with manager Jose Mourinho admitting the possibility.

"If somebody's coming, somebody will leave. The point is not to sell. I want a 22-player squad. If somebody comes, somebody leaves. Do we need to sell? No, we don't. Do we need to loan? Probably, yes. I don't like to work with big squads. I think 22 is the perfect number to answer to our needs," the Portuguese tactician stressed.

Moses managed just 12 Premier League starts for Chelsea last season, as the presence of Hazard and Mata restricted his chances in the first XI. The player has travelled with the Blues' squad for Monday's Premier League clash against Manchester United though he is yet to make an appearance under Mourinho.
