12 suspected cult members have been apprehended in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun state by local police.
It was also reported that the suspects possessed guns, live catridges, Indian hemp and assorted charms at the time of the arrest.
Muyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ogun state, reported the successful operation on September 3, 2013, Tuesday.
According to the statement, a team of police detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ogijo Division, Superintendent Toyin Afolaogun, stormed the hideout of the cultists at 12.15 a.m. on August 31, 2013, Saturday, and arrested the 12 suspects.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Adejobi, said the arrest of the suspected cultists, who had made life miserable for the Ogijo people, followed complaints from members of the public and intelligence report from the State Intelligence Bureau of the command.
The statement read in part, “On Saturday, some teams of police detectives led by the DPO Ogijo Division, SP Toyin Afolaogun, pounced on the cultists in the area between the hours of 12.15 a.m. and 4.30 a.m. and arrested 12 cultists belonging to different cult groups.
“The command has been duly informed of the dangerous activities of the cultists who have been terrorising and robbing people of the area, particularly on their land, when they are constructing structures on their legally acquired land.
“The command is ready to sanitise the area and get rid of miscreants and cultists.”
