Abuja – A Kubwa Upper Area Court in Abuja on Friday sentenced one Chigbo Uchendu, 23, to seven months imprisonment for having segxwal intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.
The Presiding Judge, Alhaji Lawal Munir, sentenced Uchendu after he pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of gross indecency.
Munir, however, gave the convict an option of N5, 000 fine.
The judge said that the court gave the light sentence after it took into consideration the guilty plea of the convict and the fact that he did not waste its time.
Munir advised the convict to marry if he would not be able to control his segxwal urge.
He said that the court convicted the accused in spite of the complainant’s request to withdraw the case.
“The complainant’s request to drop the charge against the accused does not determine the trial.
“The case is between the government and Uchendu,” he said.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Cpl. Ariki Kaura, told the court that the father of a 13-year-old JS 1 student reported the case on Nov. 27.
Kaura said that complainant, a resident of Dutse, reported that the convict enticed his daughter into his room with N1, 000 and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
He said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Penal Code. (NAN)

just 7 months, is that suppose to be justice or what?. naija na wa oh, even judge?. anyway, i know say yerima go set the guy free if na him be the judge sef.

how much time did Gov. Yerima get? The judge is trying to balance legal justice with social justice. one big man got away free while boasting about it on news media......why should the books be thrown at a poor guy. until the govt comes out with a clear -cut national policy and law on these issues, a sincere judge would act cautiously.
