President Jonathan this morning ordered three employment slots be left open for the families of those who died during the Saturday recruitment exercise conducted by the Nigerian Immigration Service.
The president also directed that immediate employment be offered to injured victims who are still receiving treatment in various hospitals across the nation.
Disclosing this after the Federal Executive Council meeting that held this morning, Minister of Information Labaran Maku said President Jonathan directed that one of the three beneficiaries must be female. Today's FEC meeting was devoted to the poorly conducted NIS recruitment exercise.
The President also ordered that the last ill-fated exercise be cancelled and set up a new panel which would conduct a fresh screening test for applicants. The Panel is to be headed by the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Deaconess Joan Ayo and would have as members, a rep from the Inspector General of Police as well as the Heads of Immigration, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp, Nigerian Prison Service, State Security Service and the Federal Road Safety Commission.
The House of Reps has also summoned the Interior Minister and the DG of NIS to appear before it to explain the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident at recruitment exercise on Saturday.
Common sense is indeed not common.

Really. Was this thought over or is this a KNEE JERK reaction to save face? I see many flaws in this decision.
The DG of NIS should resign before there is any true remorse over what happened. For example a day of mourning for the Nigerians who died attempting to get a decent job to fend for themselves and their families - should be declared. Is that so hard.

Mr.President,while this is good and commendable,I want you to realize that this have the capacity to set a bad precedent as some people will not mind to purposely cause another stampede in the next recruitment exercise in order to get wounded and be offered automatic employment.All the death could have been avoided if the people concerned did the right thing which is simple......conduct the recruitment exercises in batches because of the high population of applicants.

So employing d families of d dead now is a substitute for d dead or what? Or will d employment to the injured cover for the injury? Do they even know the numbers of those injured apart from d ones accounted for? When Oshiomole told someone to go and die, employing her was a way of atoning for his sins. Nigerian government should find a lasting solution to employment and not wait until something bad happens be giving consolatory jobs cos if that should be the case I think everyone that wrote that disappointing should be consoled too.

....hmmm,lemme start by saying that the NIS lack coordination, secondly they were shocked cos I don't think they expected that kind of crowd...here in port Harcourt screening was conducted but it was conducted only on few people. the people that died it wasn't the exercise that killed them cos there was no exercise it was their fellow job seeker that killed them all because of impatience....we all know that we human beings are uncontrollable.....all the same they should re-conduct another one cos I missed out that day.....
