Saturday Sun gathered that the Muslims had started experiencing stomach problem after eating the food in the early hours of yesterday, preparatory for the day’s fasting, in the home of an Alhaji living in Kabiru Akinsanya Street, Owode, near Langbasa, Lagos.
Confirming the tragedy, Lagos Command Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mbah, said that the incident was reported at Langbasa Police Station.
According to him, the victims ate the meal of amala with ogbono soup and cow meat at about 4.30am yesterday morning.
He said that five persons died, while 20 are receiving treatment. Among those who died are four males and one female. The victims are: Ismiala Wegba, Sherrif, Jide Ijoyi, Rasaq Adesina and Biola Francis.
The police image maker said that 20 others have been hospitalised at Akodo General Hospital, J-Rapha Hospital, Owode, Langbasa and Safeway Hospital, Sangotedo, near Ajah.
He said that sample of the food had been collected for forensic analysis.
The PPRO said that the police had arrested one suspect, who is helping in the investigation.
According to him, the case would be transferred to the homicide section, state CID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos.
