I am from Chibok.  I am the leader of our community here in Abuja. I have two daughters among the abducted girls but all the children are our own. Initially, we thought Chibok was alone in this fight but I am happy that the whole world is behind our struggle. The Chibok community had an alert that the insurgents were coming, so the few soldiers who were there, supported by the local security in the community, gathered to defend the people but Boko Haram, came in large numbers, overpowered our people and the soldiers. They brought AK47 guns, rocket launchers, other dangerous weapons and modern ammunition. So the soldiers could not do anything, they had to retreat and run for dear life. Our people in Chibok phoned me in Abuja, the moment the insurgents arrived our town and we started making contacts. They invaded our town around 11:45pm and they did not leave until around 3:00am.  What is disturbing us now is that our men had gone in search of our kidnapped girls on two occasions and retreated. Women are gathering themselves now that they will go into the bush to search for their daughters, if that happens, our fear is that there may be double tragedy. They are making this plan on their own without the involvement of the military and we are afraid.

The women are embittered because of the information that their daughters are being married off to strangers in Chad and  Niger Republic who are paying the insurgents,  N2, 000 as bride price. We really don’t know the true situation of things. As at now, 52 of the children have returned. We are still waiting for over 200 girls to come back to us.

We still believe that they are still inside Sambisa forest. The stories about marrying them off may be diversionary so that we can give up hope on them. From the accounts of the girls that escaped, the information they gave was that they know where their colleagues are. They have given enough information that can assist the military but unfortunately, nothing is being done. The names of the villages where they were kept has been mentioned.”
