Another four of the girls of Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno abducted by the Boko Haram sect have been released.
This was made known by the chairman of Chibok Local government Council, Mr. Bana Lawan on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in Abuja at a one-day stakeholders’ meeting for validation of draft humanitarian response plan for the abducted girls organised by the National Management Agency (NEMA).
Lawan said the girls were released by the Islamist extremists on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 because they took ill.
The four girls released by the insurgents brings the number of those that had regained their freedom to 57.
Lawan commended the Federal Government’s prompt intervention through the provision of relief items for the people. He also praised Nigerians for their concern and support for the people of Chibok, saying the support had restored the hope and aspiration of the people for the return of peace to the community.
The search for the abducted students is still on and hopes came alive when the Nigerian military gave word that they now know the specific location of the girls.
The Boko Haram sect had proposed the Federal Government to release members of their group being held in exchange for the Chibok schoolgirls.
President Jonathan has ruled out the possibility going forward with the prisoner swap and other options are being explored.
