Vice President Goodluck Jonathan has announced that Nigeria will achieve 100 percent teledensity by the year 2020 which is equivalent to one telephone line per Nigerian. He made the announcement at the African Telecom Development Summit.

According to the vice president Nigeria has in the last 10 years experienced double digit growth of 20 percent per annum in telecommunications. The government has recognised there's still a long way to go in achieving universal service in the country since the current teledensity is at 48 phones per 100 people in Nigeria.

"We are therefore committed to encouraging investment growth to the sector aim at achieving 100 percent teledensity before the year 2020 in line with the nation's Vision 20 2020".

The vice president was represented by the Minister of National Planning, Shamsudden Usman who made these following statements:

"The ICT has continued to be the fascinating sector, the Internet has globalised commercial transactions, social networks, education and economic development generally. It is difficult to imaging a world without broadband internet.

"The internet has becomes the world's biggest reservoir of knowledge and is giving meaning to the description of the world as a global village. However the uses of internet has its own challenges, therefore I am happy this summit is devoting time to treat the issue of cyber security. It is important that users been save and secured by using ICT."

Encouraging.
What is the plan to have electricity 100%?
What is the plan to have All Nigerian women treated as humans and not as property or chattel?
What is the plan to start manufacturing things in Nigeria and creating jobs?
What is the plan to stop corruption?

I doubt if you guys passed through school at all. Do you expect GOVT to cater to your every need?

@divineproject: What's your problem?

@ify9ja: Yes, food is important? Do you expect your president or vice president to start farming? Is
OBAMA in a farm now? Gordon Brown? Sarkozy? Or what other way do you want GOVT to encourage farming than the way it's currently doing?
YOU do not need phone that much, that's one thing a proper learned person would never say, because he understands the importance of COMMUNICATION.

@uzzy: You should ask ASUU not the federal govt, unless institutions can account for what they do with tuition they collect from students, and the federal funds they receive every year.

@kenyawest: If you talk about electricity, I partly agree with you, but the problem is not about the govt, it's about the sabotage behind the failure, and try to understand, that's the hardest thing to 'kill' in any govt. SABOTAGE.
WOMEN EQUALITY, don't even search for it. We are not liberals in Nigeria. We are religious and we have values. Though I don't support beating a woman or subjecting them to 'kitchen', but Bible and Koran confirm women are gonna be subjected to man's authority. Don't fight that, because it's a divide order.
MANUFACTURING: maybe you should ask YY guys to stop displaying their pervicacity to the world. I'm sure you read what the Ministry of Information did with respect to the SONY ADVERT. That's all the govt can do in inviting investors, they won't tie rope on them and drag them here.
CORRUPTION: tell me a govt that's corrupt with fact and figures.
