Leader of the Muslim community in Abia State, Sheik Ali Ukiwo, has warned genuine Muslims not to allow the Boko Haram terrorist group to use them.

According to him, members of Boko Haram are not true Muslims but terrorists out to destroy the country. Ukiwo, who spoke when Muslim faithful paid Sallah homage to Governor Theodore Orji in Umuahia, also said that 90 per cent of Boko Haram’s victims were Muslims, indicating that they were not true Muslims.

“We must not allow ourselves to fall victim to Boko Haram. They want to destroy this country,” he cautioned.

The Muslim community in the state, he said, had been assisting the state government to fight insecurity and had concluded arrangement for peace in the state. He promised to ensure that the Boko Haram sect did not infiltrate the Muslim community in the state.

The Muslim cleric used the opportunity to commend Governor Orji for the youth empowerment gesture he extended to Muslim youths in the state.

In his remarks, Governor Orji, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Cosmas Ndukwe, urged the Muslims to use the period to renew love for one another. He said the state had enjoyed good inter-religious relationship across the tribes and nationalities.

“It is good to know that despite challenges to our collective unity, we have elected to live together,” the governor noted and urged them to ensure that Nigeria remained one.

“The unity of Nigeria is not negotiable and cannot be left solely in the hands of any person, group or religion. We all have stakes in Project Nigeria. From our families down to the larger society, let us imbibe the culture of promoting the tenets of peaceful cohabitation,” Orji urged.
