Ghana has officially banned flights from 4 West African countries; Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria, citing concerns about the rapid spread of the Ebola virus, which has claimed several lives.

Charles Asare, Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company, said the measure was part of a set of emergency management plans officials are rolling out to combat the spread of the virus. Continue..

The government there has also implemented strict restrictions on the movement and management of Liberian refugees in camps in the country.

Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Mensah, urged Ghanaians to bear with the government as they work to contain the virus. "Preparedness is not an event but a process," he said.

And what message is Ghana sending to the western nation! All of these disunity embarrassed Africa as a continent of people with same color. How would that stop the spread of the disease in anyway, ppl are travelling by road through land borders ,the airport would have been a better place for screening individual on arrival with temperature sensors installed in every point of entry .What the Ghanaian authorities were supposed to consider is the installation of sensors in all point of entry and exit immigration post and if anyone triggered the send or alarm they should be taken aside for further testing. This unilateral action of the Ghanaian authorities is sending wrong information to the west ,and what if all European countries bound flights from Africa ,wouldn't we african say this is a mere or a manifestation of racism? I hope african policy makers should get smarter than all these nonsensical approach to combat communicable disease.

Honestly,It's irritate to read an African country would take such measure on propaganda ,instead of we african to study and unite against the disease to find lasting cure and medication for the infected person,we instead doing contrary and playing to the gallery of the motive behind western media helping to blow the severity out of proportion. The announcement of Ghanaian authority to ban flights from neighboring countries to me is amounted to stupidity and coward ness showing african weaknesses and lack of medical facilities to combat threatening diseases .In fact, this move is sending a very negative message to Europeans and the Americans ,helping them to take a step further in continue their propaganda war of ridiculing african immigration right.Ghana has long been knowing for hypocritical approach in dealing with neighbours issue.I can't digest how this measure stops the spread when all borders TO-FRO this neighboring countries remained opened.Well understood that no road crossing from Africa to Europe or to America except by air or sea. So,our western partners are taking the bull by the horns to find concrete reasons to stop african migration or shall we say it's seclusion. Now they can intensify their effort to embarrass you at their airport whenever an African is flying to their country.Of course ,it was said that AIDS all started from Africa and now they have another epidemic starting from Africa ,meaning we produce the world with life threat hoeing disease.African leaders too should stand up and invest in our people ,research and development to curb all these embarrassment! If we have the standard to provide cure to our own challenges then we will command some respect like the Chinese .

Taking precautions is the best move. After all, it won't be forever. And the other day people on GISTMANIA were COMPLAINING that countries listed as being VISA FREE for Nigerians to travel  - are POOR countries not worth anything.

And NOW all of  a sudden people are TRAUMATISED they can not fly to Ghana because they decided to put in motion a preventative short term SAFETY plan.

It has NOTHING to do with the colour of ones skin. Westrrn nations did the same during the bird flu epidemic. Hospitals DO the SAME qhen there is an outbreak of a disease.  SCHOOLS close their gates when there is an outbreak that kills. Some people are wary of shaking the hand of SAME FAMILY members because of the EBOLA outbreak.

I have nothing against ANY country, person and/or institution that wants to HELP in stopping the spread of this killer disease.

Csn NIGERIA really handle a national outbreak if it occurs on our shores. God forbid it lands in a big way in Nigeria.

Evetyone keep SAFE.

I am sure ANY Nigerian wishing to spend the holiday season in Liberia or Sierre Leone - enjoying their beaches - are free to so. Don't throttle the government of Ghana for wisely deciding that PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE - after all thats what WE Nigerians ALWAYS say!

Even Jim Iyke the Nollywood actor was not allowed to freely waltz back into Nigeria on his return from one of the countries where the outbreak of Ebola is high - and this was despite his "designer" facemask!
