The Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) has confirmed the death of a 35-year-old Nigerian woman at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The women, who was suffering from advanced metastatic cancer was travelling from Nigeria to India for treatment, when her condition deteriorated at a transit stop in Abu Dhabi. Despite immediate medical assistance, she could not be saved, said the Authority in a statement.

The traveller had shown signs that may be consistent with the Ebola virus infection; however Haad stated that her existing medical condition provided an adequate medical explanation for her death: "Full safety and precautionary measures have been taken by the medical staff who attended the patient according to the World Health Organisation standards for dealing with suspected cases of infectious diseases. In addition, all contacts of the patient (her husband and the 5 medics who took care of her on site) are in isolation pending the result of Ebola testing on the patient. They are all well with no symptoms."

The Ministry of Health assures the public that there is no risk to the community, to fellow passengers on the plane from Nigeria and those in the airport.

Saving lives and/or getting the necessary medical attention normally works when you register at a hospital or clinic nearby!

It is a pity that Nigerians have to fly to foreign lands when suffering from such life threatening illnesses. Just imagine the life that could have been saved or stabilized if all her husband had to do was to DRIVE her to a nearby cancer hospital in Nigeria. But no! We die in transit to India - and not even on a direct flight. One wonders what would happen if all flights to India from Nigeria are banned (for whatever reason). Where will the ill fly to? The UK has put in stringent laws to curb "tourist patients." It has been uncovered that Nigerians unbeknown to them who seek medical attention in India are having healthy kidneys taken out and these kidneys donated to other patients - but still we fail to look after ourselves.

The issue here is not so much about whether she dies from Ebola or not - but what the HELL is wrong with Nigeria? We have world renowned Nigerian born doctors working in cancer hospital and research all over the world. What has the previous and present federal government done to entice them home to work in Nigeria - nothing! We clap and applause when a Nigeria born citizen living outside Nigeria does well in a talent or science in a foreign land but  forget in most cases that is a loss to us and a gain to the chosen country.

We use our hard earned money to prop up hospitals in India (some below standards of Nigeria hospitals) and leave our OWN to crumble. Now THOUSANDS (16000) of resident doctors have been sacked in Nigeria by the President!   Who the hell is his adviser on health matters in Nigeria? Please check his certificate?? Probably studied in India!!!

There are MORE well run "baby factory hospitals" in Nigeria than so called government hospitals!! What a contradiction.

Well I suppose it's another "NORMAL" day in Naija?Huh???  Whatever NORMAL means!

th most embarassing moment is when white people ask you where you are from and you say africa,,,,nigeria precisely,,,,,,,,,,,you then wish you can change africa,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,all africa leaders are disgrace to humanity,,,,,,,,,,,,africa is the richest continent on earth,,,,,,but we have idiots ruling us,,,,,,there is no adequate hospital in the whole of west africa,,,,,east africa,,,,,,,,,,,,,the most painful thing is someone will think having a president who has already tasted poverty in nigeria,,,,,,will know the need to care for the people but no,,the reverse is the case,,,,,,,,well i dont blame GEJ,,,,,,,,,,,,,he cannot change what has already been existing,,,,,,,,,,,,ignoring human right
