ceejay58 at 2-10-2009 12:11 AM (15 years ago) (m) The Central Bank of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja unveiled 1.915 billion units of new N5, N10 and N50 notes. The new bank notes are made from the polymer biaxially-oriented polypropylene, which greatly enhances their durability.
PRESIDENT Umaru Yar’Adua yesterday launched the redesigned N5, N10 and N50 bank notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), with a call on Nigerians to support CBN’s “Keep the Naira Clean Campaign,” which is aimed at checking the abuse of the currency.
Receiving the new notes from the bank’s Governor, Mr Lamido Sanusi, at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, before the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting, Yar’Adua stated that “the redesigning of the lower banknote denominations and coins, as well as the introduction of a N2 coin in February 2007 represented a comprehensive reform strategy aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the currency structure”.
On the occasion, Sanusi said the redesigning of the banknotes was in accordance with sections 17 and 19 of the CBN Act; adding the new notes will be side by side with old ones for six months.

jacuzie at 2-10-2009 08:31 AM (15 years ago) (m) This is another example of a visionless state and leaders, redesigning the currency is just an act to seeking recognision or achievement by Lamido, It is not what the state requires now. The citizenry wants to see an enhanced living standard, Good health care, improved education standard, jobs for the unemplyed. Changing or redesigning the currency of about1.915 billion units , did not cost 100000, rather millions. These are avenues of stealing money. Sanusi knows he will not be there for a long time cos he will be changed becos of his illiterate and weak personality, he's doing what he got to do. We Nigerians are not fools! it's time our selfish leaders understands that facts. ...d current CBN governor did dat to sign his signature on them Posted: at 2-10-2009 08:31 AM (15 years ago) | Newbie | |

I AM VERY HAPPY THAT WE STILL HAVE PEOPLE THAT CAN SEE THE TRUTH AND SAY IT IN THIS COUNTRY,I ALMOST THINK THAT NIGERIANS ARE GULLIBLE,BUT READING ALL THESE RESPONSE TO THIS DEVELOPMENT SHOWS ME THAT WE CAN STILL FIGHT FOR WHAT RIGHTFULLY BELONGS TO US,AND STOP THESE HUDLUMS FROM STEALING FROM US,SO THAT THIS COUNTRY WILL BE GOOD.I HAVE THE INTREST OF THIS COUNTRY AT HEART.TOGETHER WE CAN BUILD THIS COUNTRY.WE CAN PLAN ON HOW TO DO IT RIGHT HERE IN NAIJA PALS INSTEAD OF CRITICISING ALWAYS.
