It wont be funny if U se the naked realities urself. It wont be worth a smile when U see people(whose ethnic homeland account for the bulk of Nigeria's wealth)fetching water to drink from the same place where they shit.U wont ve the courage to even think of smiling when U see the abject penury that have visited the people due to the dislocation of the traditional occupations, means of livelihood & way of life,by Oil exploration & exploitation. It wont be funny when U find out that they life expectancy rate in the Niger Delta is lower than the national average. And the national average is about one of the poor or least in the whole world. You cant laugh(how would U?U ve a milk of kindness in U)when U find out that they ve the least access to anything that is needed to live a normal life. And that due to lack of education, health care, food, sanitary equipment,a once peaceful people have now turned into hostage takers etc.

There is nothing comical about the Niger Delta Crisis. Those who thought it was funny are facing the existential realities now. It's not a Joke.
kai...so u really think dem they shit for naija delta?well..i think its all because these guys sense the feelin of inferiority complex from that end.and u know its eay to be ridden in such cases..i'm sure u know that

They dont sense any feeling of inferiority complex.Their actions is only a product of their development of CONSCIOUSNESS.

If I have ever left Obasanjo out of this discuss,I ve being mistaken. He is a major source of the crisis. His Land Use Decree;his insistence on delaying the implementation of the Derivation Principle &his settling for 13% which is the minimum stipulated in the 1999 Constitution; His attempt to usher in an Off/Onshore Dichotomy in resource location, ownership & revenue thereof from such; & his frustration of the take off of the Brass LNG,while promoting the Olokoba LNG in Ogun state that does not ve any Gas is not helping the Crisis.OBJ is not a friend of the NDR.He's an enemy.

Obasanjo is by far,one of the most principal fuels to this conflagmaration. It make seem a little bit out of place to some for us to be talking about a single individaul being a major cause or contributor to this crisis. However,it is a sad reality. He has being part of almost all military putch in this country.Aside from those laws, that Godsson cited above,he is part of those responsible for the Petroleum decree of 1969.Obasanjo was the one that reduced the Derivation principle from Gowon's 45% to 20%.He was part of those that increased the number of states in the country from 12 to 19(creating Ogun for himself). This unviable entities, were conduit pipes to transfer Oil & Gas revenues to the areas that contribute close to nothing to the National treasury.
Through this way, they systematically drain finacial resouces from the Niger Delta to develop other parts of the country, while ignoring the Gosse that lay the Golden Egg-Niger Delta.
I will surely be back to adumbrate.

Shell Petroleum Development Company contributed to the problems in Niger Delta, if u are from an oil producing community u will understand the fact that SPDC dat has more wells in the Niger Delta helped in fueling the crisis with its usual approach of community development, sub standard narrow roads constucted by SPDC in the Niger Delta were contsructed to enable them access thier Oil wells/flow stations but deceives the community elders that its met for thier development, secondly they build Health Centres that are sub standard, not good enough for their Staffs to receive health care, thirdly, SPDC fuel crisis in the communities by documenting the peanut cash cheque to elders with intention to show the youths to feel circumvented with intent to fuel communal crisis, which is far from the truth becos the Cheques were not intended for the community, thereby causing communal crisis. When Niger Deltians relized thier tricks, all aggression was turn on SPDC but for the selfishness of our rulers being partakers in the ploy to harness wealth from Oil dividends choosed to be on the oppressive using JTF and all indimidating agencies, thereby creating Micky Mouse committies in political masquarading of developmental plans of Niger Delta.

who caused Niger delta crisis?the Niger delta issue has been their years immemorial
The causes of most crises can been connected to relative deprivation...
when pple feel cheated after sometimes they trend to fight back
the Niger delta was like a time bomb waiting to explode in the past

the Nigerian govt had tried to dissuade the pple by giving
lots of money to the community leaders who used their influence
and embezzle the money meant for devt.

the crises will continue the govt begins a systematic devt
of the area.....

While I agree with U to a large extent,I disagree with ur diction. The cause of this crisis is not "relative deprivation",it is ABSOLUTE DEPRIVATION.It's caused by ethnic based political domination. That enable those that contribute close to nothing to the national treasure to arrogate almost all that's in it to themselves & their ethnic homeland & cronies due to their access to state power.

Also,it's not only that "people feel cheated".When U say they feel cheated,it convey the message that they are not really cheated. They just feel they are.I would rather say WHEN PEOPLE ARE CHEATED,IT LEADS TO DEPRIVATION,THAT LEADS TO FRUSTRATION.WHICH IN TURN LEADS TO ANGER & ULTIMATELY AGGRESSION.See the psychological theory called Frustration-Aggression Theory for more on this. That theory & Marxism explains the crisis in the Delta.

People wht can be done?

In order to rectify things, you have to know where they went wrong. You cannot solve a problem you dont know. And in order to know and understand the problem, you have to identify the principal characters. That is the essence of this topic.
