Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State on Saturday expressed optimism that Nigeria would soon overcome the challenges currently facing the country.
Speaking to newsmen at the Lagos Central Mosque, where he observed the Eid prayers, the governor said he was optimistic that all would be well with the country.

Fashola, however, said the destiny of the country rested largely in the hands of Nigerians, urging citizens to resolve to do things right to put the country on the path of progress.

The governor wished Nigerians a happy Eid-el-Kabir celebration and admonished them to use the occasion to renew their commitment to peace and development of the nation.

“I wish all Muslims Eid Mubarak and all Nigerians, peace. But whatever we want for ourselves and the nation lies in our hands to achieve.
“I am sure that all will be well and citizens must also want things to be well. If it is well within us, it will be well around us and it will be well with our nation.”
The governor said that Nigerians still had good reasons to thank God and celebrate, in spite of some of the challenges in the country.

He said that being alive to see another Eid celebration in good health should give the people some hope and opportunity to learn and better the future.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that  some officials at the prayer ground with Fashola include Mr Lateef Ibirogba, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Hakeem Bello, Special Adviser on Media and Mr Lanre Babalola, Chief of Staff to the governor.

The Commander of the state’s Rapid Response Force, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, was also at the mosque.

NAN reports that Muslim faithful turned out in their numbers for the prayers, even as traders made brisk businesses, selling religious materials to worshippers at the mosque.

On Nnandi Azikwe Street, where the mosque is located, some people were spotted making last minute shopping while a few rams were seen being pulled along the road by their owners.

It was a big feast at the governor`s   Marina residence as residents who had come to celebrate with Fashola ate and drank at the tents that dotted the compound.
