The police in Abuja have arrested two persons for allegedly attempting to swindle the Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) of the sum of seven million naira (N7m).
The police spokesman in Abuja DSP Moshood Jimoh said the two suspects, Festus Femi Ayesa and Olabode I. Olumade, were arrested for allegedly asking the CG Alhaji Abdullahi Inde Dikko the money so as to enable them curb protest by the National Youth Forum against him.
“They presented themselves to the CG as officials of the Forum and subsequently threatened him by asking him the sum of N7 million or else they will mobilize their members to publicly protest his appointment as CG of the NCS,” he said.
He said one of the suspects; Ayesa admitted committing the offence and that some of the items to be used during the protest were recovered from them. He said the items included a T-shirt, placard, pamphlet, and a cap all with the picture of the CG and the inscription of “sack Dikko now” and “Dikko must go” in them.
The suspects according to the spokesman would be charged for criminal conspiracy and defamation of character.
