The Nigerian Army has reportedly acquired several T-72 computerized tanks, to bolster the war against Boko Haram.

The Russian T-72 main battle tank was produced at the Malyshev HMB Plant, based in Kharkov, Ukraine and at UKBM Nizhny Tagil, Russian Federation. The T-72 first entered production in 1972 and an estimated 50,000 have been built.

Some photos have surfaced the internet, supposedly from a Soldier, which shows men of the Nigerian Army and the T-72 tanks.

Since the war against the Islamic terrorist sect began, Nigerian troops have often complained of insufficient ammunition and equipment to prosecute the war.

The tank is fitted with a 125mm D-81 smoothbore gun, a 7.62mm co-axial machine gun and a 12.7mm air defence machine gun mounted on the commander’s cupola. It also carries 45 rounds of 125mm ammunition, 22 rounds of which are carried on an automatic loading carousel.

We have read this news before. But what is all the hype abt this T-72 Russian technology that was invented in 1972. Kudos to the Nigerian government but to me 1972 technology is not good enough and also Russian technology is not that reliable. They could have done better by acquiring latest technology from countries like Germany, Israel and United States. Believe it or take it, the Islamic organization that sponsors the Boko Haram will soon provide enough money to acquire the latest technology that will counter this T-72 very soon. Nigeria government can definitely do better

Everything has a green go in Nigeria. He is not controling anything takless of his army. Please boot him out as he is a shame for Nigeria.

Sorry, but that reads like they've bought just ordinary tanks - nothing special. From the title, they should be advanced robotic tanks, not 40-year-old junkers!
