The Publisher of Ovation Magazine, Mr. Dele Momodu, says the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is not too old to be the President of Nigeria.

Momodu said in a series of messages on Twitter on Tuesday that when the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, contested in the presidential election in 1983, he was 74 years old.

He added that when the first Premier of the Eastern Region, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, contested the 1979 election, he was 75.

He, therefore, wondered why Buhari, who is 72, was being victimised.

Giving further examples, Momodu said former United States President, Ronald Reagan, was 70 when he emerged President in 1981 and served for eight years till he was 78.

He told his followers on the social media site that age was not a limit to good leadership.

He said, “In 1983, Chief Obafemi Awolowo contested at the age of 74 while Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe contested in 1979 at the age of 75. Why is Buhari different?

“An actor, Ronald Reagan, became the American President at the age of 70 and served two terms of four years each and then retired at the age of 78.

“I used to worry about age but I am convinced that leadership is about responsibility and the old and the young could be good or bad.

“Moraji Desai became the Prime Minister of India at the age of 81, Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the age of 74 and they demonstrated great wisdom in nation building.”
