Benin — Acting on a prophecy that his son was a wizard, a 32-year-old man in Benin, Mr. John Effiong, allegedly poisoned his two-year-old child.

Vanguard gathered that the child, simply identified as Comfort Effiong, was allegedly fed by his parents with a plate of poisoned rice.

It was further gathered that Mr. Effiong, who collabora-ted with his wife to carry out the dastardly act, was said to be reacting to a prophecy that the child was a wizard who was attempting to harm his pregnant mother.

However, their evil act was discovered at a police check point along Benin-Abraka road when the police arrested the father and two others who were carrying the corpse of the child in a Ghana-must-go bag.

Others arrested by the police for complicity in the murder are John Okoh, 43, and Pastor Aniekan Achio-bong.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command has declared wanted the prophet who, allegedly, gave the couple the prophecy, Prophet Ini Monday, of the Caretaker Light of God Church located at No 8, Uyi Street, off Goody Goody Street, Upper Sakponba, Road, Benin City.

Reacting, spokesman of Edo State Police Command, ASP Peter Ogboi, advised members of the public to be mindful of prophecies.

The police, he said, has spread its dragnet to arrest the fleeing prophet, while the victim’s father and two others now in police net would be charged for murder.
