Some of Nigeria's most celebrated literature texts have been given a feature in the long-running animated comedy, 'The Simpsons'.
The comedy focuses on an eponymous family in the town of Springfield in an unnamed U.S. state. In a recent episode of the 'The Simpsons' Homer is charged with looking after a Nigerian princess named Kemi (voiced by Mother of George actress Yaya Alafia) while her father and Mr. Burns discuss a uranium deal.
Beyond the obvious jabs at Nigerian 419 e-mail scams, one of which Moe falls for, the episode largely steers clear of negative stereotyping and focuses on Princess Kemi’s introduction to life in Springfield. As a token of Princess Kemi’s gratitude to Moe for serving as her guide during a tour of Springfield (soundtracked by King Sunny Ade’s “Eni Binu Wa“) she gifts him with, as she describes it, some of Nigeria’s “most beloved, albeit depressing literature.”
The four books selected by Kemi come from literary luminaries Ben Okri, Chinua Achebe and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and include Adichie’s 2009 short story collection The Thing Around Your Neck, Okri’s Booker Prize-winning The Famished Road, Achebe’s seminal work Things Fall Apart and his essay collection Home and Exile.

posterity will judge anybody or group of people that is responsible for constant power outage in isolo, holy savior area in particular. all phcn officials and their staff, whether it is politically motivated or otherwise like the current issue of fuel hoarding by petrol stations around the area thereby causing artificial and unwarranted scarcity, the people were denied of power (which they paid for) and also petrol for their generators to use in their respective homes after work this warm period. As they keep the people in dark and penury, so shall their generation witness darkness up to the fourth. according to the irreversible law of nature, what goes around comes back around. he who holds me down holds himself, he who takes something from a child and raises his hand up, one day, he shall feel pain on the hand and brings it down while the patience waiting child takes back his ware jejely.
