Kunle Abiola, a carpenter, has been sent to an early grave after he was stabbed to death while trying to mediate in a fight between two warring neighbors at Mba Street, Ajegunle area of Lagos State.
According to reports, on Sunday, April 19, 2015, a neighbour of the deceased, Chinonso Nweke, had a quarrel with another neighbour, a woman, and the disagreement degenerated into a fight.
As a peace loving man, Abiola decided to step in and quell the fight but in the process, Chinonso grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the jaw and in the chest.
He was rushed to the hospital but he died before help could come his way.
The killer, the reports adds, tried to escape but he was apprehended and handed over to the police at the Ajegunle Police Division before he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba.
A neighbour narrated the circumstances that led to the ugly incident:
"The two people who were fighting are also neighbours. It was just a minor argument which resulted into a physical fight.
Abiola came by and tried to separate them. He particularly held Chinonso, pleading with him to take things calmly. Chinonso managed to get a kitchen knife. He stabbed Abiola and the man slumped.
When the police were called to the scene, all of us rushed the man to the general hospital in Awodiora, Ajegunle, but the doctors on duty confirmed him dead.
The police then took his corpse to the station. We all shed tears; Abiola was a good man."
