Lagos Govt. arraigns 11 Nood dancers, - To renovate Epe General Hospital

Lagos State government, on Thursday, arraigned 11 Nood dancers that had earlier been arrested at a club in Ikeja for Nood dancing before Magistrate A.O. Ogunbowale (Mrs.) at the Lagos Magistrate’s Court in Ikeja.

The 11 women were arraigned on a two-count charge of indecent conduct in public and soliciting for immoral purposes in public.

The charge sheet read that, “on or about October 31, 2009 at Unique Club at No. 35, Ogundana Street, Ikeja, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did willfully and unlawfully conduct yourselves indecently in public (dancing naked) thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 231 (1) of the Criminal Code Law Cap C 17 Vol. 2 Laws of Lagos State 2003.”

The second count read that the Nood dancers did persistently solicit or importune for immoral purposes in public thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under section 225 A (1) (b) of the criminal Code Law C17 Vol. 2 Laws of Lagos State 2003.

The defendants all pleaded not guilty and their counsel asked the court for bail. The defence counsel – Segun Ayodele, Charles Aibangbee and O.O Udoji, all asked for bail for their clients in liberal terms since the offences for which they were charged are bailable.

The counsels claimed that their clients had been availing themselves since and would continue to do so if granted bail and asked the court for bail in liberal terms.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State government has said that it will renovate the Epe General Hospital, one of the oldest public hospitals in the state, to meet the current demands and needs of the hospital, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, has said.

Idris, who disclosed this while on an inspection tour of the hospital, explained that the renovation exercise which would involve the development of the physical infrastructure of the hospital, would not only be undertaken in phases but would also commence immediately with the renovation of the hospital’s theatre and out-patient department.
