Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) have taken to the social media to mourn the death, Mary Ibitolu, a 200 law student was in a road crash involving a school bus on Wednesday morning.
Reports say Mary was knocked down a moving motorcycle and crushed to death at Oke-Fia in Osogbo by a bus with failed break at about 10:30am on Wednesday.
GISTMANIA gathered that the deceased student had been in Oshogbo to visit her parents and prepare for a Catholic Law Students Association of Nigeria (CALSAN) conference coming up in Abia. Ibitolu was reportedly on her way to a bank to withdraw some cash when the tragedy occurred.
Following her tragic death, OAU students took to social media to pay tribute to their colleague, whom a member of CALSAN called a "God-fearing lady" while speaking with Punch. Students also posted comments on Facebook, mourning Ibitolu:
"You were one of those people that made me believe in myself. You will always reply me with 'is it not you' whenever I told you that it's not easy, that law is tough.
"Your passive and subconscious replies made me feel I had people to disappoint if I fail," Bamimore-Joseph Gbenga wrote on his Facebook page.
“As a friend, TunrayoTunrayo or Ibitoluuuu as I call her was a very close friend. She was the best friend and sister to my girlfriend right from Secondary School to Pre-degree and Uni until death took her yesterday.
“That my lady (Adedolapo) ever said yes, she contributed over 85% to it and I remember those times when she always told Dolapo 'he's a nice guy, he's serious about you, consider him' and in the first few months of our relationship with all the getting to blend, she was one person who helped to stabilize our relationship,” Olugbemi Kayode Crown wrote in another tribute published on GREAT IFE STUDENTS' UNION wall.
The rider of the motorcycle and a commuter also sustained injuries in the accident but survived.
Police have impounded the vehicles involved in the accident but failed to give comments regarding the accident that has thrown the OAU student community into mourning.
